With the surge of solar farms being implemented all around the world it’s hard to say who or where exactly number one lies. We have gathered – in no particular order 5 of the largest solar farms to date, with an increase of solar farms the top 5 could have changed by the time we have shared our blog post.

Longyangxia Dam Solar Park, China

The solar farm sits on the Tibetan Plateau in China and has the capacity to power 200,000 households.

Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park, India

The Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park is an innovative example of the huge strides that India is making in accelerating solar energy.

Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, India

Spread over 2,500 acres (10 sq km, 3.9 sq miles) and consisting of 2.5m solar panels, Kamuthi is estimated to make enough power for 750,000 people.

Noor Complex Solar Power Plant, Morocco

The plant will initially provide 650,000 local people with solar electricity from dawn until three hours after sunset. This is the peak period of electricity consumption in Morocco. By the time the project reaches completion in 2018, power capacity will be at 580 MW, with a storage capacity between 7 and 8 hours, allowing provision of power day and night to 1 million homes.

Shakti Sthala, Pavagada, Karnataka, India

The solar project, touted as the largest in the world, is spread over 13,000 acres and five villages. It is part of the “Karnataka Solar Policy 2014-2021” which aims to decrease dependence on traditional power sources and move to environmentally friendly ones to meet the growing power needs of the state.
