SOLAR VIC BATTERY REBATE

Solar VIC are piloting a battery rebate scheme to help identify demand and battery usage in Victoria.

In 2019-20 there will be 1,000 rebates of up to $4,838 for a solar battery system.

Installing a battery can help a typical household save up to $640 a year.

The battery program targets designated postcodes with high PV penetration and population growth. For an area to be considered a designated postcode it must:

be a high growth suburb
have high PV penetration

Based on these criteria, the following postcodes are eligible to take part in the Solar Homes battery program:

Eligibility Criteria

Victorians eligible to receive a battery rebate if they meet all of the following criteria:

the property is within a designated postcode and already has solar PV panels with a capacity equal to or greater than 5kW
pre-approval is obtained from your Distributed Network Service Provider (DNSP) to safety connect a battery to the grid
the energy storage solution is listed on Solar Victoria’s Approved Battery List and the property does not have an existing energy storage system
they are the owner-occupier of the property where the system is to be installed
the combined household taxable income of all owners is less than $180,000 a year (based on your Australian Tax Office Notice of Assessment)
it is an existing property, valued at under $3 million based on the current council rates notice
the property address has not previously taken part in the Solar Homes Program
the owner/s agrees to receive information from their Distribution Network Service Provider about taking part in battery trials to maximise the value households get from them
owner/s agree to receive a free safety inspection and/or audit under the Solar Victoria Audit Program, if selected.

CASE STUDY – CARRERA BY DESIGN

Carrera by Design are more than a kitchen manufacturer. They utilise the best hardware available and as such are able to guarantee our products last you a lifetime.

An impressive 99kW Solar System was installed on the perfect roof of Carrera by Design. With minimal obstructions there were 277 x Canadian Solar Premium 360w panels installed accompanied by 4 x SMA 25kW inverters. By the use of the larger Canadian Solar panels it gave the installation team more space to use on the roof and allowed for much cleaner string designs.

The site has some ongoing internal construction going on but this didn’t impact the installation team fitting the inverters perfectly.

According to our calculations Carrera are looking at a ROI of 31.8% p.a. With a great investment follows great savings!

With the temperature on-site well in the 40’s the installation team brought in some extra hands to complete this 99kW Solar System job and ensured it was all done prior to Christmas.

With the use of over 300+Canadian Solar 300W panels and 4 x GoodWe Inverters InStyle will see over 30% in a return on investment. A great outcome overall and it was a pleasure dealing with the team and look forward to seeing their savings come into fruition.

It was great to have plenty of room to mount the inverters, grid protection and solar distribution board to ensure a clean neat finish.

CASE STUDY – TIMPELLE KITCHENS

Timpelle Kitchens create a tailored experience for every client including concept and design at their showroom and extensive colour selection hub.

With heir state of the art factory that delivers crafted joinery combined with the efficiency of sophisticated machinery and advanced software programming allowing for precision installation, solar was the next step to progress them further.

A total of 333 x 300watt Canadian Solar panels were installed alongside powering 4 x SMA SunnyTriPower 25kw Inverters. The SMA’s are a great inverter to work with, particularly when aesthetics are a high priority. With the SMA’s built in DC Isolator it means 16 less DC isolating switches required down at the inverter location.

It was a tough installation with temperatures reaching in the 40’s but the team as always knocked it out of the park.

Bill before solar: $116,210 p.a.
Bill after solar: $87,150 p.a.
ROI: 29.3%

It was a pleasure dealing with Timpelle and the entire team are thoroughly pleased to see the ongoing benefits this solar system will bring.

Solar VIC Rebate Still On

The Solar Victoria Rebate is still on!

Solar Victoria are providing a rebate of up to $1,888 for solar panel (PV) system installation, for homeowners and rental properties. To further reduce installation costs, householders can apply for an interest-free loan, for an amount equivalent to their rebate amount. The loan is required to be repaid over four years.

Am I eligible?

Victorian households are eligible to receive a rebate for installing a solar PV system if they meet the following criteria:

they are the owner-occupier of the property
the owners have a combined household taxable income of less than $180,000 per year (based on last year’s Australian Tax Office Notice of Assessment)
it is an existing property, valued at under $3 million
they do not have an existing solar PV system*

Once you’re confident that your property fits the eligibility criteria, you should start researching solar retailers who are authorised to participate in the Program and can meet your energy needs.

How does solar work?

Solar panels harness energy from sunlight and a inverter(s)/ and/or battery create usable energy for all your electrical needs.

What size system do I need?

There are various factors to consider when going solar.

How much energy you currently use…
Devices or extra electrical appliances e.g. pool, air-con.
Roof space (could limit the size depending on how many panels can fit)

What’s the difference between grid vs off-grid solar systems?

Basically a grid solar system is when your solar panels produce less electricity than what your property requires, the rest is supplied by the power grid (your local electric company).

Off-grid is a stand-alone system that uses a storage battery like Telsa Powerwall to store the electricity generated. The off-grid solar panel system will produce more electricity during the day than what your property can consume. The excess electricity is used to charge a storage battery from where you draw your power at night when the solar panel system is producing very little electricity.
